Family-operated.
Kansas-built.
Free State Storage is run by Midwest Storage Solutions, a sixth-generation Lawrence, Kansas family.
The facility at 2400 Franklin Rd was formerly Storage Sense – Lawrence. It became Free State Storage in October 2026: same units, same gate.

Lawrence was founded in 1854 by the New England Emigrant Aid Company — settlers who came west to make Kansas a free state during Bleeding Kansas. The town took fire for it, literally. Quantrill burned it down in 1863. Lawrence rebuilt.
We didn't pick the name as marketing. Read the story behind the name.
Three things we won't budge on.
Honest pricing.
The rate you see online is the rate on your invoice, with no admin fee. The only other line at checkout is the required coverage, and your own insurance can stand in for it. If your rate ever changes, you hear it from us in writing first.
Help that can actually help.
Call or text during phone hours and you reach a real person on our team, not a phone tree. Someone who can solve the problem.
Storage that just works.
Reserve online in about a minute. Your gate code arrives right away. No office visit and no paperwork.
